Airtel - Bad experience buying a 4G Hotspot

Firstly:

  1. I am an existing Airtel Bangalore mobile customer (9833979021), and am generally pleased with Airtel's service. Therefore, the way I was treated in this post comes as a shock to me.
  2. I was thinking of giving Airtel even more business from my end - with the purchase of 2 4G hotspots. So it is a further shock to be treated in this way.

Sequence of Events:

  1. I was interested in getting not one, but two Airtel 4G Hotspots - one for home and one for work.
  2. I visited Airtel Store in Mantri Mall (Malleshwaram, Bangalore) on 1st Nov 2015.
  3. During this time, I decided to buy the hotspot - but first I needed a demo at my home. (near Malleshwaram Railway Station).
  4. For some reason the demo did not happen, even after multiple phone calls.
  5. Because of my urgent need, I requested a demo using the airtel.in website.
  6. A lady named Shilpa (phone no ****4477) contacted me and setup a demo on Sunday 8 Nov.
    1. Note: During conversation with her, I had clarified that I was under no obligation to purchase a device from the demo person.
    2. Shilpa also didn'tsay that the demo would be chargeable if I chose not to purchase from the demo person.

  7. The demo guy (I think his name was Manju - phone no ****0111) came at 5 PM. We were happy with the demo, and planned to visit the Airtel store that same day to buy the4G Hotspot device.

Rude behavior:
At this point, the demo guy called up Rajesh (phone no unknown) who is supposedly Shilpa's boss, and told him of our plans to buy from somewhere else. He then made us talk to Rajesh.
Rajesh was very rudeto us. He said that we would have to pay 200 rupees to the demo person if we didn't plan to buy. He used forceful words and did not behave in a manner befitting a customer-facing professional.

Because of the forceful words used by Rajesh we were forced to give 200 rupees to the Airtel demo guy. We did not get a receipt for this.

My problems are as follows:

  • I was being forced to purchase the device from the demo guy, whereas it is clearly my choice where I buy a device from. It is also my choice whether or not to buy a device after seeing a demo.
  • It was not made clear to me by Shilpa during the phone call, that I was expected to buy the device after the demo.
  • My situation was:
    • I was an existing customer of Airtel;
    • I had been happy with the demo and was thinking of giving Airtel further business.
    • Under such a situation, I was spoken to very rudely by Mr Rajesh, in a manner unbecoming of a professional dealing with customers.

  • No receipt was given to me by the demo person for the 200 rupees. Should I expect to get this money refunded?
